Since the pandemic, it has become the norm in many places for both continuing education courses and entire degree programmes to be conducted digitally. The CBS International Business School, which has seven locations in Germany, including Cologne and Mainz, has now been awarded the title of "Best digital education provider" among Germany's business schools by the magazine WirtschaftsWoche for its online learning comcept.
The market research institute ServiceValue examined the satisfaction of users of 111 providers of digital further education by collecting more than 10,000 evaluations in the form of school grades. These ratings were used to calculate average scores for the providers, which form the basis of the ranking. It is noteworthy that the CBS, as a on-campus university, has received an award as digital learning provider. In the last two years, the university was among the top 3.
Prof. Dr. Anja Karlshaus, President of the CBS, explains its approach: "Digital education does not simply mean online lectures. High-quality teaching such as we proved it integrates digital formats in a targeted manner to improve the quality of teaching, not to make it more efficient. The digital lectures at CBS are part of a holistic teaching concept consisting of various didactically sound formats. We are delighted that, as a on-campus university, we have already been voted one of the best digital education providers in Germany for the third time".
CBS relies on face-to-face teaching and a wide range of digital learning opportunities. In addition to live e-learning in the form of webcast lectures or working in a seminar room at a given time, self-directed e-learning allows students to determine the time, intervals, pace and place of their learning activities.
On the one hand, this combination gives the students the possibility to ask questions to the lecturer in real time or to exchange information with their fellow students. On the other hand, it gives space to personal learning preferences. Learning can be adapted to individual lifestyles and routines, and students' time and self-management skills are trained. "The award confirms that we not only know what digital education is all about, but that we also use it correctly. At the same time, we are a face-to-face university out of conviction," explains Anja Karlshaus.
CBS relies on a mix of on-campus and digital learning. The idea behind this is that students should have a second home on campus, where they can experience community and make real connections.
Prof. Dr. Christoph Willers, Managing Director of CBS, is convinced of the benefits of face-to-face teaching: "The campus is the place where they can sit in the campus café, make life plans together and then scrap them again. Here they meet lifelong friends from different countries and can build networks for their careers. At CBS, you will make experiences that will become special memories in your life, that will shape your personality, that will help you to develop your talents and discover new strengths. These are all things that an online university cannot offer".
