Studying abroad
A semester abroad is more than a great challenge, it presents a unique opportunity to get to know another country, to gain intercultural experience, to gain a new perspective on one’s own studies, and last but not least to improve one’s linguistic abilities.
In the English taught Bachelor degree courses a semester abroad is compulsory in the fifth semester. German taught Bachelor’s degree students and all Master students can spend a facultative period abroad.
The tasks of the International Office for Outgoing Students include:
General advice regarding studying abroad and planing the semester abroad
Holding information events regarding the semester abroad
Support when searching for and applying to appropriate guest universities
Advice on financing options for the stay abroad
International students
Every year, the CBS welcomes new international students from all over the world to its campus. With your different nationalities and cultures, for example from Taiwan, Korea, France, and the USA or Mexico, you make life at the CBS an intercultural experience, whilst becoming acquainted with a culture new to you at the same time. The International Office happily provides international students with help and advice. We provide you with information and tips on living and studying in Cologne and at the CBS and organise a “study buddy” for you upon request, who accompanies you to the Aliens Authority for example or simply shows your student life in Cologne.
Partner universities
The International Office is also responsible for the maintenance of contacts to the CBS’ numerous partner universities and the initiation of contacts. Should you discover an international, state-recognised university that you believe offers a degree course which is interesting for the CBS and is not yet a CBS partner university, contact us so that we can make the efforts to conclude a partnership agreement with the university.

The Resource Planning & Scheduling Department’s area of responsibility includes the smooth running of the individual semesters at organisational level with their respective courses and events. This also incorporates the planning, organisation, and preparation of semester plans, room plans, and timetables based on available capacities and setting framework conditions.
Lecturer Management is a further important component of the department’s task area. The teaching loads and availability of all professors, honorary lecturers, and academic employees integrated into the capacity planning form the basis for the work assignment planning of all teaching staff. All organisation and administration processes take place in continuous exchange between teachers, the Office of the Dean, and the Resource Planning & Scheduling Department. This includes obtaining offers, preparing fee contracts as well as checking and processing the invoicing process.
Moreover, the department assumes a helping function if support and information are needed by the teachers and any students with respect to organisational questions regarding space and time related to the semester programme. Moreover, Lecturer Management includes components of the function of acquiring teachers.

In the Library of the CBS International Business School, you will find a large collection of books focused on the study programmes and specialisations. This collection is divided between our CBS locations. Our library headquarters is located on Cologne campus.
Via the MyCBS homepage, you can find the ‘Library’ section under the service facilities and search for the literature of your choice in the joint library catalogue of the CBS and the European University of Applied Sciences (EUFH). In addition to e-Resources such as eBooks, you can also search for literature in the databases ‘EBSCO Business Source Complete’, ‘WISO’, ‘Statista’ and ‘Handelsdaten.de’. EBSCO and WISO, in particular, offer you access to academic journals and are very popular among students and lecturers.
To borrow media from the CBS library, you will need a valid student ID card. If the media you wish to borrow are already lent to another student, you can reserve them in advance for yourself. When the media is returned, then, you will receive a notification by e-mail for a pick-up.
Our library team is looking forward to your visit!
