sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion
Shaping the Future Together and Taking Responsibility!

Our Mission: Education that makes an impact. Personal. Societal. Global.
At CBS University of Applied Sciences, we see education as the key to a more just, sustainable, and diverse society. Our responsibility as a university goes far beyond academic excellence: We create spaces for social change, individual development, and collective action.
Sustainability as a Lived Commitment
For us, sustainability is not a trend but a mindset. Whether through climate-conscious campus design, sustainable academic content, or innovative projects – we promote sustainable thinking and action across all areas. Our professor, Prof. Dr. Wulf-Peter Schmidt, who also developed the Master’s program in Sustainability Management at CBS, sums it up:
“Sustainability is a cross-cutting issue – just like quality. Both must be embraced and implemented by everyone. Just as quality isn’t created solely in the quality department, sustainability must not only reside in sustainability departments but be an integral part of all business areas, models, and strategies. Only then can we effectively harness the opportunities of sustainability and adequately respond to the urgent transformative challenge. That’s why aspects of sustainability are integrated into many courses at CBS – not just the ones labeled ‘sustainability’.”

Diversity & Inclusion
At CBS University of Applied Sciences, people from diverse backgrounds, life paths, and perspectives come together – and that’s exactly what makes us strong. Our vision Creating Tomorrow is more than just a guiding principle: it reflects our shared commitment to actively shaping the world of tomorrow – inclusively, equitably, and justly.
As a university with over 4,000 students from more than 75 nations, we live and breathe diversity every day. For us, diversity is not an add-on, but a core part of who we are – on all our campuses and beyond. We create spaces where everyone can develop their strengths, regardless of gender, background, beliefs, identity, or physical abilities.
Inclusion Begins in Studies – and Extends into Society
We equip our students not only with professional expertise but also with personal development – aiming to prepare them to actively promote an open and diverse world in their future roles in society, business, social work, or healthcare.
Our innovative teaching concept – the “digital presence university” – combines academic excellence with personal growth. Through close support and an inspiring campus life, we foster not only knowledge, but also a strong sense of community and mutual respect.
Structurally Anchored: Gender Equality & Diversity Management
Our university embraces Diversity & Inclusion at a structural level as well. Our Gender Equality Officer and the Vice President for International Affairs are responsible for the strategic development and implementation of our initiatives.
Our official Gender Equality Plan and Code of Conduct clearly define our principles – with a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination, harassment, or exclusion. We are committed to creating a safe environment for everyone, one that fosters respect and individual freedom.
A Visible Commitment: "Charta der Vielfalt"
By signing the “Diversity Charter” in 2020, we took a clear stand – for greater visibility, participation, and equality. Pride Month, which we celebrate annually on our social media channels, along with internal panels and discussion formats, reflects our active commitment to openness and inclusion.
Diversity Management – More Than Just a Buzzword
For Us, Diversity Means Recognizing and Embracing Individual Differences.
Whether in terms of culture, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, or abilities – we value and support diversity in all its forms. Inclusion, to us, means ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities to contribute and succeed.
Through targeted diversity management, we strengthen our community and provide our students with a strong foundation for their future. After all, both companies and societies benefit from diversity: it fosters more creative teams, smarter decision-making, and more sustainable social cohesion.
We’re on the Right Path – and We Welcome Your Engagement
Our path toward greater diversity and inclusion is ongoing. It thrives on participation, feedback, and the courage to embrace change. We invite all students, staff, and partner companies to join us in shaping this journey – toward a university that empowers the future.
the Diversity & Inclusion committee
At CBS University of Applied Sciences, we see diversity as a key strength in a future-oriented educational landscape.
The Diversity & Inclusion Committee at CBS is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment – for all individuals who study, teach, or work at our campuses.
This interdisciplinary team – made up of professors, deans, administrative staff, and students – brings together expertise and perspectives from across the university.
Together, we develop events, projects, and strategies on topics such as gender equality, LGBTQIA+, anti-racism, and other aspects of societal diversity. Past initiatives have included a panel on LGBTQIA+ rights in the workplace and discussion formats addressing experiences with racism in the context of Black Lives Matter.
In addition, the committee regularly develops concepts to further advance diversity, equality, and inclusion at a structural level. All members of the CBS community are warmly invited to contribute ideas and get involved – because an inclusive university life can only succeed together.
