Model United Nations, short MUN, is an educational simulation in which the work of the United Nations is re-enacted. This gives students the chance to learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.

All over the world MUN conferences, whose structure is modelled on that of the UN, are held regularly. Participants in MUN conferences, so-called delegates, must slip into the role of a diplomat of one of the member states and represent the opinion of the respective country. They receive their tasks in advance as well as one or more topics that their committee will discuss. Delegates do research before conferences to formulate their positions, which they will then discuss with their colleagues in the committee. In doing so, they must always remain faithful to the actual position of the member they represent and not be guided by their own personal opinions. At the end of a conference, the best performing delegates on each committee and the delegations are sometimes awarded prizes.

As with everything, the motto here is of course "practice makes perfect". That's why the members of the CBS MUN team meet regularly to practice debating, simulate conferences, and research the problems and interests of the UN member states.
