What is Business Psychology?
Business psychology examines the subjective experience and human behaviour in economic contexts in conjunction with social interactions. In a Business Psychology programme, you study two thematic areas: one focused on psychology and the other on business. Business psychologists work in areas such as market research, personnel development, coaching, management consulting, advertising, sales and product development.

What can I expect from a Business Psychology programme?
In the Business Psychology programme, you analyse how people act in economic and social contexts. Using scientific methods, you develop optimisation and problemsolving strategies for companies. Core subjects include psychology, social and personality psychology, market research, economics, business administration, as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal processes.
Is a Business Psychology programme right for me?
A Business Psychology programme is ideal if you have an interest in both business and psychology and want to understand how human behaviour influences economic decisions. A good numerical aptitude, along with analytical and logical thinking, will help you evaluate data and develop sound strategies. You should also be communicative and openminded, as you will often work with people – whether in market research, human resources or marketing.
Empathy and resilience are equally important when dealing with diverse personalities and challenges. If you also enjoy academic work, this programme provides the perfect foundation for a versatile career.
What does the Business Psychology programme cover? What will I learn?
In the Business Psychology programme, you acquire a solid understanding of economic processes and human behaviour in economic contexts. The content varies depending on the qualification:
Bachelor’s Programme: Combines foundational business subjects such as business administration, bookkeeping, financial reporting, mathematics, statistics, investment and finance with specialised psychological topics including general and personality psychology, neuropsychology, personnel development and employment law. In addition, you gain cross disciplinary skills in Business English, negotiation techniques and time management.
Master’s Programme: Deepens your knowledge in areas such as Business Economics, digital management, strategic analysis and international human resource management. You also specialise in advertising psychology, psychological competencies, business psychological research and applied business psychology. Supplementary skills such as team leadership, creative thinking and communication are imparted. The programme can be completed Full-Time or Part-Time alongside employment and includes practice oriented elements such as assessment centre bootcamps.
What are the entry requirements for a Business Psychology programme?
The entry requirements depend on the qualification you are aiming for. For the Bachelor’s programme, you need a general university entrance qualification or a full specialised entrance qualification. Foreign qualifications such as the Matura, ALevels or the IB Diploma are accepted. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required – either via a certificate (no older than two years) or by taking CBS’s free online English test.
For the Master’s programme, a first academic degree (Bachelor, Diploma or Magister) from a recognised institution with a minimum grade of “good” is required. If this standard is not met, a separate admissions process may be necessary. The initial degree should be businessoriented and comprise at least 180 ECTS credits. A Numerus Clausus (NC) is not required.
How is the Business Psychology programme structured?
The duration and structure vary by qualification:
Bachelor’s Programme: Lasts six or seven semesters and can be completed in German or English. You graduate with either a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) if you study in English, or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) if you study in German. At CBS, you can study Business Psychology fulltime or as a dual programme. A strong practical focus is integral – the fulltime model includes an internship and an optional exchange semester, while business projects with industry partners and business simulation games enable you to test your skills in realworld conditions.
Master’s Programme: Lasts four or five semesters and is also offered in German or English. Depending on the language of instruction, you graduate with either a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or a Master of Arts (M.A.). The programme can be completed fulltime or parttime alongside employment. Even at the Master’s level, practical application is central, with an internship and an optional exchange semester integrated in the fulltime model, along with business projects and simulations in real corporate contexts.
What career opportunities can I pursue with a Business Psychology degree?
After graduation, numerous career opportunities open up in a secure field. The combination of business and psychological expertise is in high demand, as human decision-making cannot be fully automated—even in the digital age. Potential employers include consultancies, banks, retail and wholesale companies, as well as the pharmaceutical and automotive industries. You can work in large corporations or SMEs, with salary structures varying by industry and location. Alternatively, the programme offers the possibility to become self-employed or start your own business, applying your business psychology expertise to innovative ventures.
