Student Life
Together with four other CBS students, our student Rachel Hall from the Bachelor's programme "International Business" was part of a business project with the company LYOFOOD. She is a bachelor student in her 4th semester and known on the CBS campus as a student assistant. She also supports Prof Dr Markus Raueiser and Prof Malgorzata Zmuda in the area of International Business and additionally leads the CSR Student Team of the CBS. LYOFOOD is already known to CBS students and faculty as the company for which a joint case study was conducted last winter in collaboration with California State University Northridge.
The Business Project was again about a marketing approach for the company of CEO & Co-Founder Wiola Godek. Rachel Hall describes this as "a unique and successful learning experience". The CBS Business Project team was invited by Ms. Godek and her sister Laura (one of "30 Forbes under 30" of 2016) to visit the production site in Poland to learn more about the company and its products. For the team this means two exciting and interesting days in the production facilities of LYOVIT, where the LYOFOOD is produced.
The company LYOFOOD produces freeze-dried food. It does not only address climbers, extreme sportsmen and alpinists in powder form with the food packed in bags. LYOFOOD attaches great importance to the naturalness of the ingredients used. No preservatives or other additives are used. Vegetables, fruits and herbs partly come from local fields, because LYOFOOD wants to reduce its CO2 footprint by using regional products. The biodegradable packaging of the new product line also focuses on sustainability.
Participants of the campus-wide CBS-SUSTAINABILITY DAY, which took place for the fourth time on 6 May 2019, will certainly remember the pop-up stand of LYOFOOD. It was organized by the participants of the business project. Students and lecturers could taste LYOFOOD product samples on this occasion and familiarize themselves with the peculiarities and unique features of the new LYO City product line. In this way, the business project tested the concept for LYOFOOD on site at CBS.
The final presentations and concepts were handed over to Prof. Zmuda and Prof. Schallehn during the last week of lectures. This also included three possible videos for online marketing in order to address students - and thus younger people - via social media.
