Cologne, 12.4.2021 / Penalty shootouts, crisis meetings, career - mental strength often decides on success. In order to combine sports, business, and psychology, CBS International Business School has designed the new Master's degree programme "Sports Management and Applied Sport Psychology (M.A.)". Graduates will qualify for international specialist and management positions in coaching athletes, managers, clubs, and companies, among other things. The German-language degree programme will start for the first time in the winter semester at the Cologne and Mainz campuses.
Measured by gross value added, the sports industry is the third-largest industry in Germany and an important economic factor with about 1.3 million employees. "The sports business needs more and more graduates with expertise in business administration, management and sports psychology. We are one of the few universities that offers this combination and thus opens up the best career prospects," says Prof. Dr. Irene López, Dean at CBS International Business School. Suitably qualified young professionals are in high demand, for example, in marketing, personnel and personality development, coaching, communication and crisis management in the business and healthcare sectors. Highly qualified lecturers, including graduates of the German Sport University in Cologne, enable students to become real experts in these fields.
The four-semester Master's programme includes lectures as well as practical modules such as the "Business Project" and an internship. Soft skills modules teach important skills such as team and self-management, presentation skills, creative thinking and innovation as well as leadership behaviour. Foreign language training prepares students for international activities. With elective modules, students set personal focal points and create a unique competence profile for the job market. The prerequisite for the Master's programme is a Bachelor's degree in a business-related programme. Interested students with a business administration background can clarify with the student advisory service whether academic achievements can be credited. The CBS International Business School helps students to finance their studies at the private university of applied sciences with its own support programmes.
