On the occasion of our 25th anniversary, we have focused on the topics of charity and social responsibility at CBS in 2018. That’s why we were launching a campaign under the motto, “CBS cares for …”, which promotes the issues we care about, particularly in our society and around the world. For us, the primary focus is on education, the promotion of children and adolescents as well as the protection of our environment and the sustainable use of resources. With this campaign we wanted to spend one year paying special attention to the planning and implementation of charitable events and the support of non-profit organisations. Together, we wanted to give children and young people around the world the chance for a safe, healthy and successful future.
On this page, you will find information on events and supported projects which is regularly updated throughout the year. You also have the opportunity to join our mission here directly. In addition to emergency aid for children, UNICEF is also committed to equal opportunities for all children and young people in terms of education. The CBS International Business School sets a good example as it gets our donations till up and running. It is our pleasure to get this commitment underway with a donation of 10,000. Euro.
Child labour is widespread in Bangladesh, with around five million children helping their families make ends meet. For the employers, the children are welcome workers. They work for a pittance and even have fewer demands than grown-ups. Their work is often particularly tedious and repetitive. The worst thing, though, is that the children can hardly escape the cycle of poverty on their own. Their families do not have the money to send them to a normal school, and besides, the children’s employment is necessary for the family’s survival. Girls have it particularly hard since they are seen traditionally as of lesser value. Every other 15 year-old in Bangladesh is illiterate. With your help, UNICEF wants to improve the situation for child labourers and give them new opportunities through education.
Basic education for child labourers: With your donations, UNICEF supports 500 simple, yet effective learning centers. Lessons are scheduled, keeping in mind the working situation of the children; there are two to three lessons per day – in the morning or in the afternoon. UNICEF does not develop the teaching modules for their elementary education, but rather, these are arrived at by the children at their own pace. The children learn reading and writing, arithmetic, and geography.
Qualification for adolescents: For older children, UNICEF extends its educational offer to occupational qualification training. In half-year training courses, young people have the opportunity to gain initial experience in professions such as tailoring, cosmetics, embroidery, motorcycle repair, or plumbing. The courses provide practical knowledge as well as important foundations for self-employment like accounting and English.
CBS International Business School celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018. With its foundation in 1993 – at that time still under the name, “International Campus” – the cornerstone for the practically-oriented and international Management Studies programme was laid in the middle of the Cologne Südstadt. In the meantime, CBS has become one of the top addresses among private colleges in business administration. CBS attaches great importance to the best possible preparation of its students for a successful career entry in an international company.
